This project consists of a 33,000 SF remodel of the existing City of Richland Library as well as a 25,000 SF addition. The exterior of the building consists of a mixture between existing/salvaged brick and a metal panel/curtain wall system with precast concrete panels. The interior of the structure has wood ceilings, wood panels, custom casework, stained concrete floors, etc.
The project had unique characteristics that added to the complexity including adding significant structural improvements to the existing building. An entire section of the building had to be shored up and excavated under to support the new addition. In addition there was a carved masonry art wall from the original library exterior that was completely encapsulated in place and built around during construction of the addition.
This project had unique design challenges that pushed all the team members and added significant experience to Chervenell with regard to this type of complex remodel.
